Glitch with the pm's and other thoughts on the upgrade

There is a global freeforums problem with the private messages. I may try to email the few members. But I think everything is set to go. This new forum has a lot more to it than the last one. I still have to add code for the youtube and google. Any problems, please let me know.

Guests can now post anywhere.

It's time to stop the chemtrails.

They're working on the avatars. You can upload them from an image host domain but not yet from your desktop.

What else? I'm hoping the settings are working. I also miss the old stats. Maybe we can add some kind of counter. I'm gonna write up the aerosol report on this shocking day of deliberate dispersals. I will email the active members outside of freeforums to make sure all is ok.

Update On The Upgrade

Unread postby socrates » Tue Aug 26, 2008 3:28 pm

Thanks to Lophofo for figuring out the youtube code. He has a chemtrail time-lapse video embedded in the second forum.

It isn't working yet for those that were posted on v.2 of the forum software. I'm still working on fixing those.

Important: There is a new feature where long url's are pruned to fit the margins. If you hit preview or edit, the exact link is lost. This is one more thing to figure out.

I'm happy with the stats set for four hours. I do want the robots hidden. It's primarily yahoo and google showing up, which is good. FreeForums has explained that we are better off with the robots being registered.

Uhm, what else. I am kind of backed up right now but appreciate the good posts being made. Thanks to Lophofo, Isard, and BlueSkyHope for giving this place some much needed momentum.

Also Very Important: Good lurkers, you are now able to post anywhere on the board. There will be a delay, as we whittle out the porn and spam. Thank you for your patience. Please do not hesistate joining in.

Any ideas or glitches, please let me know.

Once youtube is fixed, a button will be added to the posting menu.

Oh yeah, I'm gonna stay with socrates2 as my username for the public forum. My original idea has been that I am on equal footing with all other guests, and Lophofo serves as the moderator.

There was an earlier version of the public forum. The socrates2 posts seen in other forums were from the original version.

Hopefully all the glitches will be worked out soon. If anyone sees any broken links or images, please let me know. Thanks and enjoy the new digs. 8)

Testing The Board- YouTube and URL's

Unread postby socrates » Wed Aug 27, 2008 12:14 pm

Trying to figure a few things out with the new board. As for youtube, Lophofo has figured out how to embed. The problem is with the youtube videos posted before the conversion to v.3. We are gonna have to go back and manually fix each one. I'm not even gonna worry about the few google videos embedded, that is something to fix down the road. I am looking forward to when these awkward glitches are worked out, and we can all go back to our regular posting activities without worrying about the technical aspects.

This thread will be used to test things. Specifically, I have noticed a problem with long links. There is a new feature, where links are abbreviated. We've all seen them before.

Code: Select all
http://some_url_addresses_are_ too_long_and get_cut_off

Code: Select all
http://some_url_addresses_are_...cut_off

The problem is when we hit quote, edit, or preview, the links are being abbreviated in the posting box. The preview may look correct and even work, but it is what is in the writing box which gets posted.

Everyone please be careful with this situation, as broken links and images are an eyesore. But since we are aware of these things, we can nip it in the bud now.

I want to test two things:

1) youtube videos

2) this link converter issue

1) I'll go find us a youtube video to embed.

Here's one of my favourites by Elvis Costello.

youtube.com/watch?v=YbOVtcSUVjI

Thanks again to Lophofo for figuring this out. It's the same code as before: {youtube] url address [/youtube]. The only difference, however, is instead of typing in [youtube] url address [/youtube], type in {youtube=425,344] url address [/youtube]. Maybe we can figure out how to do this without having to type in the numbers, but for now, this is what seems to be working.

Code: Select all
[youtube=425,344]http://youtube.com/watch?v=YbOVtcSUVjI[/youtube]

Let's see if this works.

We'll try it with both the numbers and without.

[youtube=425,344]http://youtube.com/watch?v=YbOVtcSUVjI[/youtube]

(on edit- socrates here- I must have been daydreaming to not notice it worked without the numbers. Or else, it's impossible to explain how trial and error was used to work out the problem. I'm just glad all of them can now be fixed. I'm even adding new ones here and there where before there were only links.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of videos to fix. I also notice that wide images have gotten cut off. The url converter thing is a big drag right now, too. And we have to add fonts like comic sans, etc.

One other thing I noticed. Where people had extra spaces within their paragraph structures, it seems to have thrown off the script going from v.2 to v.3. All these things can be fixed. But it will take time. Sincere lurkers could help out by making some good posts.
}

Subsequent posts will test out the url converter issue. Stormy at FreeForums wants me to show her exactly what I mean about problems with using the quote, edit, and preview buttons as regards to this specific issue.

Edit Test

Ok, now it's time to tackle the problem with the url converter. Let me find a long one.

The link above works. I am gonna hit edit on that post, just to make sure the problem is still there with the edits. Then I'll go back and fix it the way it was and give an update on this post.

on edit: I refixed the link. The same problem occurs when one hits the quote, edit, or preview buttons. I think I may have found a freeforums glitch but am a bit confused why others at freeforums haven't noticed this. Most of the time, glitches are global, rare times, it is the problem of individual forums. I have established this thread for two reasons.

1) When embedding youtube videos, make sure to add in those numbers.

2) Now FreeForums can reproduce the problem. They can understand what I mean.

The glitch is taking place in the posting box, that place where when we hit the submit button, that is what gets posted, no matter how the preview looks.

{on edit: I just noticed that Lophofo wrote color with the letter "u" like I tend to do. Now why would a rightwinger Mormon ever use the European "u" like this? Here thus is further proof that Lophofo has been part and parcel of an insidious campaign to discredit this forum. I have just been going around putting all Lophofo.com links and images into protected code. 1/16/09}

Testing a previous youtube video embed code:

Boxing Tribute - Rumble in the jungle - Foreman vs Ali

Chemtrails time-lapse video from the Chemtrails are not Kooky section

That is very odd. The same code works for the new video, but for the video that was posted first (elsewhere on the board) it doesn't work. It's the same code format also. That is strange.

{on edit :: I think I got the YouTube vids working by simply reposting the code again and submitting} -- I am using Purple colour now for my edits since socrates has already declared and used red as his. 8)

Thanks for fixing the youtube code again. It shouldn't be too tough to fix all the videos on the forum. Retyping. That is strange. I'm looking forward to seeing if that works. How's that different from just adding in the numbers. I got one to go yesterday, the Rosalind Peterson interview. But then others wouldn't show up. I'd empty the cache, cookies. Nothing. Maybe there are chemmie and debunker spirits messing with us? :P

For google, we'll just have people go to the link if they want to see those few. I know there are a couple of good election fraud ones. I liked google, because you could get some good mileage. Youtube only goes ten minutes. Now I'm on dial-up. No more movies for me. But I'll fix them. Maybe the google code isn't tough to use. Thanks again.

I'll move this to the "it happens" section.

p.s. the above edit was made by Lophofo. Please be careful with the edits. I wrote on a previous post somewhere that I would write on edit and use red just like you did. I'd hate to confuse any newbies/fence sitters who heard I am disinfo with sock puppets. :twisted:

Gotta figure out smilies. That should be the priority.

And we got chemtrailed again today.

I just made an aerosol report for today.

My big goal is to fix all the videos as soon as possible. Thanks for figuring it out.

There is one option for slowing down spam, but that would also slow down the guest posts. There is something called the flood limit. We could set it at 30 minutes. But what if we get a guest who likes to make a lot of posts? That would defeat the purpose of having a public forum.

To repeat for all guests: You are now able to post anywhere on the forum. Thanks for your time and consideration.

The person at FreeForums resolved my thread. I post there as Newbie. I don't think she understands what I meant about the url's getting cut off. It's something to keep an eye on. The best way around it is to simply use the url code.

I've a glitch with my pm's. But I can get around it by having new pm's sent to a different file.

My post count jumped about thirty. The resynchronize mod was disabled on v.2. Everything should now line up for stats.
